School Based Programs

Dii does small group tutoring (1 tutor with 4 students) during the school day.

Students receive 1 hour of tutoring twice per week from a Dii tutor trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach. We work with schools throughout Indianapolis and the surrounding areas.

A real life example of what Dyslexia Institute of Indiana Tutors do in schools:

Jasanny told her small group tutor that she did not want to be in the group because she did not think it was helping her learn to read. Meanwhile, her classroom teacher and tutor had noticed significant improvements in her reading and spelling. Jasanny was discouraged because she was still struggling on her spelling tests. To better connect her tutoring and the classroom and to help her see that she was learning, the tutor partnered with her teacher to adjust her spelling test lists. When the tests aligned to the content Jasanny was learning in her tutoring, the turn around was immediate! She began to see her own progress and gained confidence in her ability to read and learn.

Small groups allow our tutors to take extra time to work with a student on her/his specific troubles which can make a huge difference in their learning trajectory. By partnering with the classroom teachers, there is a cohesive experience for a struggling student that helps them catch up to their classmates and thrive.
